On the 6th of October not only Windows Mobile 6.5 was launched worldwide, but also the associated software shop Windows Marketplace for Mobile, slowly filling up the shelves with products (31 applications steadily growing). They made a hilarious video about a fake Microsoft App Lab and want to highlight the stupidity of some iPhone apps ( e.g. iMilk, Crazy Moth ) in the the App Store. There are a lot of different useless iPhone applications and obviously Microsoft thinks the same about Apples iTunes Store.
Yes, it’s true! There are lot of ridiculous apps in the store, but what Microsoft does not understand is that all these ironic and funny apps are extremely popular. Often enough they are very creative and you can waste some time by playing around with them. No wonder people like to pay for them.Specially a developer wants to get a lot of attention and I bet that many Microsoft developers would like to have the same kind of success. Everyday people are watching meaningless TV-Shows, but as long as people are watching them TV-Channels are happy. As you can see the content doesn’t always matter.
On top of that there are extremely good apps ( e.g. TomTom, Skype ) and amazing games ( e.g. Secret of Monkey Island ) available at the App Store (for free and to buy). The iTunes store still beats any other mobile stores (Android, Palm, Blackberry).Windows Marketplace has got 31 applications in their store and Apple has got over 1000. Microsoft will need some time to diminish this advantage!
